Renowned TV host Shakeeb appointed PSM’s MD

Renowned TV host Ahmed Shakeeb, popularly known as Shaakeeb Be, has been appointed state media, PSM’s managing director.

Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) announced Shakeeb’s appointment for the post via an announcement on Wednesday.

Shakeeb has extensive experience in the media as a long-time TV host. In this regard, popular shows he has hosted include Thiyabeyfulhunge Furusath, Ehaaraa Mihaaru, E Handhaanuga, Heyyanbo and Dhivehi Raajjeyge Enme Ali Gadha Thari.

Most recently, Shakeeb has been hosting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s podcast, Rayyithunaa Eku.

The post of PSM’s managing director became vacant following the resignation of Ibrahim Nasreen, who last held the post, on November 30^th. Nasreen was later appointed deputy minister at the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts. 

Nasreen had replaced Mohamed Saeed, who stepped down as the head of the state broadcaster on December 18 after a short five-month tenure without specifying a reason.

Saeed’s predecessor, Zeena Zahir’s tenure had also been short-lived. Appointed as the PSM’s managing director in November 2023, Zeena resigned on August 23, 2024.

She did not specify a reason for her resignation either.

As such, Shakeeb’s appointment marks the fourth managing director for PSM in two years.
