The police have made an arrest in a brawl that broke out after a patron at a café in Hulhumale’ was attacked.
The incident took place just before 11:00 pm on Friday at the Raakani Beach, a popular beach-front café located in Hulhumale’ Phase I.
A police spokesperson said on Saturday that the agency received “a report last night of a brawl between two individuals” at the café.
The spokesperson said that a Maldivian male had been arrested in connection to the case.
The police did not specify who was arrested or if the brawl resulted in any injuries.
The incident was caught on video via a CCTV camera placed inside the café.
The video shows two men sitting at a table at the café. At 10:57 pm, two men arrive at the café on a motorcycle. The driver, wearing a white t-shirt and jeans, grabs a chair and hits one of the patrons, who grabs his own chair and hits the attacker. Bystanders quickly rush in and break up the fight.
The case is under investigation by the police.
The Maldivian capital has been a rise in violent crime, with reports of 589 cases of assault reported to the police from across the country so far this year.
