Man arrested in machete attack attempt after wife’s weight made fun of

A young man and two others were apprehended from Sh. Milandhoo on Saturday, after he allegedly attempted to assault someone using a machete after his wife’s weight was made fun of during a conversation over a social media platform.

A local source told Sun that the incident took place on Saturday night.

Three people – two men and one woman – were initially taken into custody the police. However, the woman was later released.

The two men arrested in the case – both accused of attempted assault using sharp-edged weapons - were presented before the local magistrate court for their remand hearing on Sunday. One of the suspects was released citing lack of sufficient evidence, while the other, the 22-year-old local, was remanded in custody for 12 days.

According to court documents, the 22-year-old is accused of taking a taking a machete to the residence of a 31-year-old man and attempting to assault him.

Witnesses also testified seeing the man brandish the machete at a bystander and threatening him, and then hiding the weapon in the U-box of his motorcycle when the police arrived at the scene.

The police recovered the machete as well as two knives from the motorcycle.

At the hearing, the 22-year-old admitted to going to the scene of the crime and raising his voice. He told the court he was under the influence of narcotics at the time, and admitted to some of the allegations against him.
