The Minister of Finance Moosa Zameer on Saturday revealed the government’s ongoing works to propose a supplementary budget to manage the expenses of the current year.
At the press conference held at the President’s Office to provide details of the ministry’s ongoing efforts, Zameer confirmed the work on the supplementary budget is currently ongoing.
The government is required to propose this additional budget owing to discrepancies in the previous year’s annual budget, the minister added.
Zameer highlighted that in the past few years, that the state spent excessive of the annual budget and later added these spendings to the supplementary budget, which the current Attorney General had called unlawful and unconstitutional.
The minister said the current administration is required to look into this issue and make adjustments by proposing the additional budget.
“We will decide an exact supplementary budget figure after discussing it with the cabinet and the president, as well as after we receive the Auditor General’s report,” Zameer added.
In each of the past three to four years, the then government added a supplementary to the original state budget, and proposed a supplementary of MVR 6.5 billion.
