The government has denied the report claiming President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu “distributed’ money to main ruling party, PNC’s MPs while noting action will be taken against the party who made the report.

A report by a news publication earlier today claimed that President Muizzu had been “distributing” MVR 75,000 to PNC MPs.

Heena Waleed, the government’s chief spokesperson, denied the report via a post on X. In this regard, she called the news “a blatant lie”, adding efforts were underway to take action against the party which made the report.

“We are undertaking efforts to submit the spread of false news with the purpose of creating hatred towards the President to the relevant authorities in order to take legal action,” the post read.

Heena also cautioned the public about parties that spread false news regarding the president and MPs.

No PNC member has commented on the report in an official capacity. However, a similar report made previously has been denied by the government.

Main ruling PNC holds supermajority in the Parliament.
