23 more ‘Binveriya’ plots handed over from Hulhumale’

Housing Ministry announced on Monday that it has handed over 23 more plots awarded from Hulhumale’ under the ‘Binveriya’ scheme.

According to the ministry, 13 plots were handed over on Thursday, and 10 others on Sunday.

This increased the total number of plots handed over to recipients to 648.

Total 1,408 plots were awarded from Hulhumale’ under the ‘Binveriya’ scheme. The ministry has yet to hand over 761 of the plots.

The Housing Ministry said that plots are being handed over to recipients once the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) clears the sites and hands it over to the ministry.

The ministry added that it is reviewing the land use plan for Giraavaru Falhu and Gulhifalhu, and conducting reclamation works in order to hand over the plots awarded from the two islands.

The delay in handover of housing awarded under the ‘Binveriya’ and Gedhoruveriya’s schemes – launched by the former administration - has sparked serial protests in the capital.
