Motorcycle thief jailed for two years

Criminal Court on Wednesday has sentenced an individual found guilty of stealing and riding a motorcycle.

The theft was reported earlier on January 10 this year, near Road Development Corporation (RDC) head office in Male’ City.

It was proven that the convict, Ahmed Irushan (Dhonveli, R. Kandholhudhoo) had stolen a green color Honda Qubix near RDC, after which he had ridden it. State pressed unlawful possession and use of private property.

Irushan had confessed to the crime during the preliminary hearing of the trial. His confession allowed the case to proceed on fast-track trial, with Criminal Court holding his confession sufficient to prove guilt of offense.

The convict was sentenced to jail to two years, but will serve one year, 11 months and 14 days after his remand period is deducted.
