Damaged cable causes blackout in Addu City

A damage to an electrical cable amid road construction has caused a blackout in the linked islands of Addu City on Monday.

Addu Hithadhoo Moolekede constituency council member Ahmed Saeed, while speaking with 'Sun' confirmed the city experienced the blackout around 16:45hrs on Monday afternoon.

Fenaka Corporation, the utility provider to the city is now working to resolve the issue, and said power to the city will resume around 21:00hrs.

Fenaka said that an HV cable was damaged during road construction works, that caused the blackout.

Earlier, the city's Mayor Ali Nizar raised concerns of poor utility services in Addu, who added a comprehensive long-term solution will incur an estimated USD 300 million.
