Addu City Council opens bidding to lease 19 plots in Hithadhoo for 20-year commercial investment

Nineteen plots of land in Hithadhoo, Addu City, will be leased for commercial use for a period of 20 years.

The Addu City Council said in its announcement on Thursday that the land will be allocated to registered individual businesses, companies, partnerships and local investors.

The plots opened for lease include land designated for general business, wholesale and warehouse operations, as well as industrial use. They comprise various sizes of land from the Hithadhoo Port area, the industrial zone, and reclaimed land near the port.

According to the notice, the largest plot measures 66,384 sqft from the Hithadhoo Port area. Other plots include medium-sized commercial lots and smaller parcels suitable for warehousing and light-industrial activity. (Road names and plot numbers are included in the Gazette notice.)

A registration fee of MVR 300 is payable by interested bidders. Registration will be open from Sunday until the 31st, from 08:00 am to 14:00 pm on official working days. Applicants must send their payment slip and registration information to the Council’s finance email.

Bids will be submitted and opened on Tuesday, the 15th of next month at 10:00 am at the Addu City Council Office.

The Council said details on bid evaluation, including scoring criteria and required documents, will be provided in the information sheet issued to registrants.

There has long been concern that tourism and related business opportunities are not being adequately developed in Addu City, the southernmost and second most populous city in the country. As a result, efforts have been made to expand tourism and other investments in Addu City.
