Two people have been arrested with drugs after entering a house that had been officially closed under a court order in Addu City.

The suspects are Ahmed Sharath, 32, of Ummeedhee-villa, Maradhoo-Feydhoo, and Aishath Saleem, 37, of Fari-villa, Maradhoo-Feydhoo.

They were arrested inside Ummeedhuge, a premise in Maradhoo-Feydhoo that had previously been sealed, and were found in possession of drugs at the time of arrest.

The pair were produced before court on July 13 for a remand decision, and the court ordered them to be held in custody for 15 days.

Ummeedhuge was closed on the 15th of last month under the Drugs Act, following an order issued by the Maradhoo-Feydhoo Magistrate’s Court. The house was sealed due to allegations that it was being used as a drug cafe.

Police reiterated that entering or leaving premises closed under a court order without permission is a criminal offence, and warned that the strictest legal action will be taken against anyone who unlawfully enters or damages such locations.
