Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) has pressed charges against two individuals, alleged of stealing the car of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Managing Director's car.
The state is prosecuting Mohamed Haisham (M. Seenee Asurumaage, Male') and Ahmed Nizam (M. Modern Comet, Male') for their suspected involvement in the case.
Both are facing illegal possession of private property charges, and stand to face three years and two months in jail if convicted.
Additionally, Nizam faces charges of misrepresentation and property damage. PG said Nizam is suspected to have removed the car engine's chassis number to forge its identity.
Police earlier on June 13, said their investigation into the case revealed a wider network of automobile theft.
The authority said their investigation revealed 100 vehicles have been registered under Nizam's name, out of which 86 are four-wheeled vehicles - registration of these vehicles have been split between him and his wife.
A total of 42 vehicles were registered under his wife's name, police said.
