Man arrested over theft of box with over MVR 300,000

The police have arrested a man suspected of stealing a box containing over MVR 300,000 in cash.

According to the police, the box in question went missing on Sunday after it was offloaded from a speedboat that arrived in Male’ and kept in the jetty area near the Atolls Parking Zone in Boduthakurufaanu Magu.

The person who lodged the police report said the box contained over MVR 300,000 in cash.

The police went through the CCTV footage from the area, and identified the person who took the box, and where he took it to.

Ali Nazim, 44, Seven Star, L. Mundo, was arrested in connection to the case on Tuesday.

The police recovered the box he allegedly stole, along with MVR 248,500 in cash and a mobile phone he is believed to have purchased for MVR 7,000 using the stolen money.

The Criminal Court on Wednesday remanded Nazim in custody of the police for 15 days.

The case is under further investigation by the police.
