Govt contracts China company for 1000 housing unit project in Eydhafushi

The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure on Wednesday, has contracted a Chinese company towards the development of 1,000 housing units in Baa atoll Eydhafushi.

The Minister of Construction Dr. Abdulla Muththalib signed the agreement on behalf of the government, while Country Manager Pan Guanzhou of Sinohydrop Corporation Limited (Sinohydro) signed on behalf of the contractor.

The initiative was announced during last month's parliamentary election, by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his visit to Eydhafushi to endorse Ahmed Saleem for the constituency.

The President then remarked this project was initiated by Saleem, who had proposed the project and sought all necessary state permits required for it prior to contractual agreement.

With this housing initiative, President Muizzu claimed it would solve the housing issues Eydhafushi locals faced.
