Man who stabbed mother receiving psychiatric treatment

The mentally ill man who stabbed his mother inside a flat in Hulhumale’ Phase I on Monday night is now undergoing psychiatric treatment.

Police said the man is undergoing treatment at the state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) under the oversight of the Ministry of Social and Family Development.

The stabbing was reported to the police at around 06:50 pm Monday. It left a 51-year-old woman injured. Police, last night, citing the hospital, said the woman was in serious condition.

However, she has since been discharged from the hospital after treatment, confirmed to Sun by Hulhumale' Hospital. 

A police spokesperson confirmed that the suspect is the victim’s son, and that the woman was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon in a domestic dispute.
