Fight breaks out on Orchid Magu; one hospitalized

A fight broke out on a street in the Maafannu district of Male’ City on Wednesday, leaving one person injured.

The fight, which took place outside the tobacco store, Root, on Orchid Magu, was caught by officers checking the police’s CCTV feed.

Police said that officers attended to the scene at around 02:11 pm.

Police said that the incident resulted in injuries to a male, who is being treated at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). The police did not specify the age.

A video of the incident shared on social media appears to show the fight took place between two middle aged men. The video shows one of the men, who has his t-shirt torn, kick and punch a man who falls on the ground. The man is seen getting up and confront the first man, as bystanders attempt to intervene.

Both Male’ and Addu has seen a spike in violent crimes in recent days.
