Four youths arrested for alleged attempt to commit group violence with knives

Four Maldivian nationals have been arrested on suspicion of attempting to engage in group violence with sharp-edged weapons.

According to remand orders issued by the Criminal Court on Tuesday, the suspects were taken into custody on allegations of attempting to engage in violence and possession of sharp-edged weapons.

The suspects have been identified as:

  • Haisham Hussain, 30, Narugisvilla, GDh. Dhevvadhoo
  • Ahmed Rasheed, 34, Fini Villaage, GDh. Fiyoari
  • Ibrahim Thoohin Ashraf, 21, Aroorage, GA. Dhaandhoo
  • Mausooma Mohamed Didi, 32, Male' Dhaftharu No. RS 2260

The Criminal Court has remanded all suspects in custody for 15 days.

The remand orders further state that all four individuals have previous criminal records. The court order concerning Ibrahim Thoohin Ashraf specifically noted that he has had a criminal record since he was a minor.

The court documents described the alleged attack as a premeditated act involving multiple individuals. The Investigating Officer (IO) informed the court that two knives were recovered from the location where the suspects were arrested.
