Young foreigner arrested for violence using weapon

A young Bangladeshi has been arrested for violence using a dangerous weapon.

A foreigner has been arrested for alleged violence using a weapon in Male’ area.

According to a court order publicized by the Criminal Court on Wednesday, the suspect has been identified as Siam Bepari, a 19-year-old Bangladeshi national. He is accused of violence using a dangerous weapon, assault and causing damage to property.

He was arrested under a court order, after sufficient evidence was presented to establish reasonable grounds for suspecting his involvement in the alleged offenses. The evidence submitted includes intelligence reports, photographs documenting the injuries sustained, and witness statements.

The court noted that, based on the circumstances surrounding the incident, one individual sustained significant physical injuries. It was also noted that the suspect himself sustained injuries during the altercation.

The suspect has been remanded in custody pending the outcome of the investigation – a decision made under the Prevention of Gang and Other Serious Offences Act

The Police have yet to disclose further details regarding the alleged assault.

With foreigners accounting for approximately one-third of the Maldives’ population, undocumented migrants and foreign nationals residing in the country in violation of regulations have emerged as significant concerns. There are also increasing concerns regarding the involvement of foreign nationals in criminal activities.

In response to these concerns, Home Minister Ali Ihusaan has previously warned that foreign nationals found to be involved in criminal offenses would be deported within 48 hours.
