Instead of following a specific politician, people should “run” after the leader who fulfils pledges, states Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, the leader of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) – which is supporting President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s re-election.
Addressing a campaign rally in HDh. Hanimaadhoo on Wednesday, Siyam said it is important to make decisions based on experience.
Siyam said that he has been in politics since former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration, and found that President Solih’s administration is the only one which made a meaningful difference.
‘Other presidents visit islands and tell the people to ask two things of them, or three at the most,” he said.
Siyam said that President Solih, in contrast, is open to any and all suggestions.
“This is what presidents hungry to serve the people do,” he said.
Siyam said the people must consider their own situations.
‘Us, the Maldivian people, do not need to run after a specific political leader. We must run after a government or president that treats us with kindness and fulfills our desires,” he said.
