Maldivian government has issued exequatur to the newly appointed Honorary Consul of Romania to the Maldives, President of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) and the parliamentary representative for Meedhoo constituency Ahmed Siyam Mohamed.

Siyam was presented his letter of credentials as the ‘Honorary Consul of Romania’ at the consulate of Romania to the Maldives on November 23, 2022.

Maldivian government presented Siyam his exequatur, in other words, the official recognition of his appointment to the post, during a special ceremony at the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.

Announcing the presentation of Maldivian government’s exequatur to Siyam via a tweet, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid expressed confidence that the appointment will further enhance relations between Maldives and Romania.

Until recently, Mohamed Mahir held the post.

Diplomatic relations were established between Maldives and Romania in 1979.

An Honorary Consul is a native who has been appointed as an official representative of the government of another country in his or her respective country to perform certain diplomatic functions.
