The Emirati low-cost airline Flydubai is set to launch Maldives-Sri Lanka flights in November.

Mohamed Firaq, the Managing Director of Ace Travels – Flydubai’s local agent – told Sun the airline was working on launching flights between Velana International Airport and Bandaranaike International Airport on November 1.

Firaq said Sri Lankan authorities have granted approvals to launch the operation.

Flydubai will hold daily flights between Male’ and Colombo.

According to Firaq, the tickets will be low-cost.

“Though it’s a budget airline, the airline will issue business class and economy class tickets. As per current plans, the flight will arrive in Maldives from Colombo in the afternoon,” he said.

Flydubai already holds weekly flights between Maldives and Dubai. The airline had suspended operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, but resumed operations in October 2020.
