Malaysia’s Raya Airways to launch freighter service to Maldives

Malaysia-based cargo airline Raya Airways is scheduled to launch a dedicated freighter service in mid-August, connecting Malaysia with the Maldives.

According to the airline, it plans to introduce a scheduled all-cargo connection between Penang and Male’ starting mid-August, in a move aimed at further strengthening its regional footprint and opening new opportunities for cargo connectivity across the Indian Ocean corridor.

The airline states that the addition of the Penang-Male’ route reflects its continued focus on developing strategic routes that support evolving trade flows and provide customers with greater network reach and operational flexibility.

“As demand for reliable air cargo capacity continues to grow, Raya Airways remains committed to connecting businesses, markets and communities through efficient and dependable freight services,” stated the airline in a statement in July.

The Maldives has seen an increase in imports via air in recent years. Statistics show the country’s import market for air cargo comprises about 9,470 tons.

The new Penang-Male’ route is expected to increase the capacity.
