Swiss-based leisure airline, Edelweiss Air has announced an increase in its flight operations to the Maldives to meet heightened demand during the upcoming summer season.

In a statement on Wednesday, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) stated that in addition to its existing scheduled services, the airline will operate two additional weekly flights between July 4 and September 13.

These flights will run every Wednesday and Saturday, further strengthening connectivity between Switzerland and the Maldives during the peak travel period.

With this expansion, Edelweiss Air will operate a total of 21 additional flights to the Maldives over the summer season, providing greater flexibility and convenience for travelers.

Edelweiss Air is the third-largest airline in Switzerland and has maintained a long-standing presence in the Maldivian market.

The airline commenced operations to the Maldives on November 4, 2000, marking over two decades of continuous service. In 2025, the airline celebrated the 25th anniversary of its operations to the destination.

Switzerland is about the top ten source markets for tourist arrivals to the Maldives. Information released by the Tourism Ministry shows that 17,951 Swiss tourists have visited the country as of Tuesday.

The increase in flights by Edelweiss Air is expected to boost arrivals not just from Switzerland, but also from other European countries during the summer months.
