It is the target of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to begin mini bus service in Male’ City under the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) within July, states the company’s CEO, Adam Azim.

In an appearance on Public Service Media (PSM)’s Raajje Miadhu show, Azim said MTCC had completed all preparations required from the company to launch the service.

It included designing buses to suite the streets of Male’, bringing in the buses, arranging for locations to park the buses, and training the necessary staff.

“MTCC is ready to begin mini bus service. MTCC has made all preparations. The target is to begin the service this month,” he said.

Azim said that lack of cooperation from Male’ City Council was delaying the launch of the service.

He said that launching the service required certain changes to the streets, including building bus stops.

Azim said that only Male’ City Council was authorized to get it done, and that MTCC had not received a response to its request for necessary arrangements.

The shipment of 32 mini buses needed to start the service arrived in Male’ last weekend. It includes 12 buses for Male’ and 24 for the atolls.

MTCC states mini buses will be available every 10 minutes.

The company said it would announce the rates for the service soon, and was working on an app for the service.
