State Electric Company (STELCO)’s Managing Director Hassain Mughnee has announced the company was braced to release a new product of its ‘floating solar’ line soon.

In an interview to RaajjeTV on Wednesday evening, Mughnee said that the majority of the work on invention of a new product was complete, and that it was ready to be released to the market.

Mughnee said that the new product was better and longer lasting than the company’s previous product, but the proposed sale price was higher than they wished.

“But in time, we will learn better and find ways to reduce the price,” he said.

He said the new product was designed to allow one panel to be linked to the other.

Mughnee said that STELCO’s aim wasn’t to profit from powerhouses in islands, but to provide the safe quality of services in the islands as that offered in Male’ City.

“When we started this, there was around a 30 percent variance between the islands we provided services to and Male’. We have reduced the variance to around 10 percent now. We will, In Sha Allah, reduce the variance to below six percent by the end of this year,” he said.

Mughnee said that work on around six powerhouses will be complete before the end of the first quarter of this year. He said that the powerhouses were designed following extensive research, and would be second to none in Maldives.
