STELCO has announced that upgrading works on the Hulhumale' Phase II electricity grid will begin on Tuesday.
There have been prolonged power outages this year in the Hiyaa towers and FDC flats in Phase II. STELCO said it has now officially taken over the management of the Phase II electricity grid, which was previously under the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
The company said it is taking important steps to improve the quality, reliability, and sustainability of electricity service in the area. Under the project, technical upgrading works on the Phase II grid will be carried out from Tuesday until the 31st of this month.
STELCO noted that temporary power interruptions may occur in various parts of Phase II while the works are ongoing. The company apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their cooperation, stating that the upgrades are essential to improving long-term service quality.
On April 12, several towers in Phase II were without power for eight hours. Two weeks later, another outage occurred, and it took more than four hours to restore electricity to all flats. STELCO has previously said that power outages during Phase II development works were often caused by cable damage during road construction.
