Traffic police in Addu begin using speed guns

Police have begun using speed guns in traffic operations in Addu City. 

Speed guns held police record the data of drivers who overspeed or violate traffic rules. It can detect the speed of vehicles even from a distance. 

Gan Police Stations’ Commander Abdulla Ibrahim (DD) told Sun that speed guns were being used in a one-month operation aimed at solving traffic issues in the city. 

“The other purpose is, there is a major road development project in progress in Addu. We need to familiarize the people regarding traffic issues and ascertain the safety of the roads in time for the completion of the project,” he said. 

He said that the use of speed guns has already had a positive impact on traffic in Addu’s roads. 

“Since the beginning of use of speed guns, we have noticed a higher level of compliance with the speed limit. They know that we will be able to detect the speed even from a distance if they overspeed,” he said. 

Addu police are currently using speed guns sent for the operation from Male’. However, they have also made a request for their own speed guns to officially begin the use of speed guns in the city.
