Commuters warned against non-essential travel as flooding further deteriorates conditions on Addu link road

The Addu City Council issued an advisory on Sunday urging commuters against traveling on the Addu link road unless absolutely necessary, after flooding due to ongoing rain further deteriorated conditions on the key road that links the southern city’s islands.

The council asked people to keep an eye out for the dewatering pumps and pipes that have been placed to dewater the flood water in the city’s roads.

The council added that flooding has further deteriorated the conditions on the Addu link road, making it unsafe. Commuters have been advised to avoid all non-essential travel on the link road for the time being as a safety measure.

The council also advised commuters to be vigilant when travelling on all roads in essential, and to slow down when crossing flooded areas.

The Addu link road links the districts of Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo, Feydhoo and Gan, the latter of which houses the city’s airport.

Conditions on the link road are already bad, with the road littered with potholes, making it not only unsafe but also causing damage to vehicles.
