Police: Afham’s death brought to our attention, investigation ongoing

Maldives Police Services on Sunday stated that the death of a Maldivian in Sri Lanka was brought to their attention, and are investigating the matter.

Afham Nazeer (23) from Dh. Meedhoo was reported missing, and his dead body was found by Sri Lankan authorities on Saturday night.

Following this, Police stated that this case has been brought to their attention, and added that they were in contact with the relevant authorities to investigate the matter.

A member of his family who spoke to ‘Sun’ stated that the Sri Lankan authorities have confirmed his body was found near a railway track in the Dehiwala beach area.

“The Sri Lankan intelligence revealed to me that his body was found with a knife and had wounds on his neck,” said the family member.

Additionally, the family revealed that authorities brought in the last person who met Afham and confirmed that the body found was his.

The Sri Lankan authorities are further investigating the case.

Afham moved to Lanka three years ago to seek higher studies in Business.
