Hulhumale' Police and HDC discuss new measures to reduce accidents

Hulhumale' Police and Housing Development Corporation (HDC) have held discussions on measures to reduce accidents in Hulhumale'.

The meeting focused on ways to minimise road accidents and dangerous incidents in the city.

It was attended by Hulhumale' Police Head, Chief Inspector Ibrahim Khaleel; Hulhumale' Traffic Police Head, Chief Inspector Ahmed Haneef; other police officers; HDC Planning Head Ahmed Shahid; and additional HDC officials.

Police said they shared information on areas where accidents are frequently reported, including locations with high-speed incidents, and discussed immediate steps that could be taken to reduce risks in these zones. The meeting centred on three key areas of road-safety improvement: engineering, enforcement, and education.

Discussions included increasing police presence on major roads, expediting legal action against speeding violators, and strengthening traffic management around schools. Police said changes to improve traffic flow at roundabouts and crossroads were also explored.

In addition, the agencies discussed installing pedestrian lights at key intersections and implementing measures to prevent parking at roadsides, crossroads, and building gates. They also agreed to conduct joint awareness programmes to improve road-safety knowledge among drivers and pedestrians.

The main purpose of the meeting was to identify ways the two agencies can work together to make Hulhumale'’s streets safer and more secure.
