A troubling video showing a child fallen from an Aman Udhares tower on Monday has been circulating on social media. Police have urged the public not to share the video further and to remove it from their accounts, pages and groups.
The incident was reported to police at 11:35 am.
Police said the victim is a 16-year-old girl, who is currently being treated at Hulhumale' Hospital.
A video circulating online shows police officers and several women at the scene of the incident.
Police said they have issued a public advisory urging people not to spread the video.
In their statement, police said:
“A video showing the distressing aftermath of a child falling from a building is circulating on social media. We urge all parties not to share this video further, and to remove it from their social media accounts, pages and groups.”
Police said circulating such videos violates the child’s dignity and personal privacy, and causes further grief and distress to the family. They also warned that such graphic scenes can have serious adverse effects on the mental wellbeing of children and other vulnerable individuals.
Police further advised the public:
“Please do not download, repost, comment on, or spread unverified information related to this video.”
They also encouraged users to report the video on social media platforms and to urge others to delete it.
The Maldives Police Service said it is investigating the incident and taking all necessary measures in connection with the case.
