Officers engage residents and reward safe behaviour during Police Day activities

A special community-focused event was held on Tuesday as part of Maldives Police Service Day to recognize members of the public who contribute to matters related to everyone’s safety and security.

The event, organised in connection with Police Service Day, aimed to strengthen the relationship between police officers, their families and the communities they serve. Officers took part in the operation wearing T-shirts instead of uniforms to be more approachable and encourage positive engagement.

Police said 99 percent of the public cooperate with efforts to maintain road safety. As part of the event, officers distributed thank-you cards and gifted helmets to motorcyclists who were found to be fully compliant with traffic regulations. Those who parked their vehicles correctly were also appreciated.

In addition, residents who had not placed clay pots on balconies, a known safety hazard, and individuals who had taken proper safety measures at construction sites were recognized.

Police teams were deployed in the Artificial Beach area, Republic Square, Children’s Park and other busy locations in Male' city.

More activities are planned for Police Service Day, including a Children’s Evening in Male' and the atolls. This year’s Children’s Evening will be held on Saturday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Social Center area. Police have invited families to attend.

A special Police Family Night will also be held, featuring performances by Baarashu Shiyam, the traditional dancer who went viral during this year’s Eid celebrations.
