Parliament’s Human Rights and Gender Committee has made the decision to look into the case involving a young woman, whose badly decomposed body was found in a house in Galolhu district of Male’ City.

Liusha Shakir, 27, was found dead at approximately 2:33 am on Wednesday.

She was taking methadone treatment from National Drug Agency (NDA) for her drug addiction.

Her body was badly decomposed when found, indicating she had been dead for days.

During a meeting on Thursday, Human Rights and Gender Committee’s chair, Hinnavaru MP Jeehan Mahmood said the death is concerning.

Noting that people taking methadone treatment require close monitoring, Jeehan said she wishes the committee to look into the case, and will seek information from NDA and other state institutions regarding her treatment and her death.

The death is also under investigation by the police.
