Police have announced an investigation into five officers who were allegedly involved in the MMPRC corruption scandal.

Lawmakers have long alleged that there were police officers complicit in the scandal. Allegations of the same were levied against MPs of the previous and current parliament as well.

Police said tonight that an administrative and criminal investigation into the allegations were underway tonight. Due to the investigation, the officers are currently suspended.

On October 24, 2019 Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Riyaz had announced that investigations were underway due to allegations of officers receiving "sponsorships" and "aid" from the MMPRC scandal. Riyaz had said that an internal investigation was underway.

No details of the investigation had been disclosed since then.

Police had stated back then that the MMPRC scandal was carried out to obtain funding for the political benefit of those involved. From the findings of the investigation, police had said that the scandal had gone as far back as 2014 parliamentary elections.
