Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has stated that the Maldivian consulate in Jeddah will be opened in time for the next Hajj season.

Saudi Arabia currently has a Maldivian embassy in the capital Riyad. The Saudi government had permitted the Maldives to establish the consulate in Jeddah.

“The government of Saudi Arabia has given permission this week to open the consulate by the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, to provide better services for Maldivians visiting the country and for Maldivian pilgrims.”

“The consulate will be operational for the Hajj season of this year,” said the Minister.
