Maldivian inflation rate drops by 0.23 percent

The National Bureau of Statistics has revealed that the Maldivian inflation rate dropped by 0.23 percent in September.

The Consumer Price Index by the Bureau showed that the Maldivian Inflation rate stood at 99.9 percent in September which is a reduction of 0l.23 percent in August. It is, however, a 0.02 percent increase when compared to the rate of September last year.

Consumer Products that saw a reduction of prices in September are:

  • Mobile phone bills (-5.10 percent)
  • Mobile phones (-1.88 percent)
  • Air transport (-1.68 percent)
  • Footwear (-1.56 percent)
  • Fruits (-1.21 percent)
  • Clothing (-0.60 percent)
  • Motorcycle (-0.56 percent)

Consumer Products that saw an increase in prices in September are:

  • Vegetables (8.31 percent)
  • Books (1.67 percent)
  • Internet (1.07 percent)
  • Fish (0.60 percent)
  • Milk and Eggs (0.20 percent)

The inflation rate for the period in the capital Male’ city stood at 99.8 percent, which is a reduction of 0.17 percent when compared with August. The rate for other regions in the country stood at 99.8 percent which is also a reduction of 0.32 percent.
