Sinamale’ Bridge, Islamic Center will not be closed off for Modi’s visit

Sinamale’ Bridge and Islamic Center are not scheduled to be closed off during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, says Maldives Police Service.

Modi is scheduled to arrive in Maldives in his first trip abroad since the national elections in India at 3 pm this Saturday.

Reports have been circulating via social media that the Sinamal’e Bridge will be closed off, and the Islamic Center vacated and also closed off for a certain period of time during Modi’s visit.

Maldives Police Service has denied the reports, announcing the Sinamale’ Bridge and Islamic Center will remain open.

However, Islamic Center will not be accessible from the entrance in Ameer Ahmed Magu as the road lies on the Green Zone, which will be closed off in the evening.

“There’s no restriction on worship. Islamic Center will be accessible from Medhuziyaaraih Magu for worshippers,” said the media official from Maldives Police Service who spoke to ‘Sun’.

The official reception to welcome Modi to Maldives will be held at the Republic Square at 3:30 pm.
