Thimarafushi accident victim remains comatose, sent abroad for treatment

The victim of the roadside accident in Th. Thimarafushi on March 12 has been transported abroad for treatment.

The victim, identified as Zuleykha, 52, from Th. Vaandhoo, was hit from the back by a van as she walked to the Thimarafushi Domestic Airport at approximately 7:45 am on March 12.

President of Th. Vaandhoo Council, Mohamed Qiyas reports Zuleykha was transported to Sri Lanka for further treatment at the request of the family last Saturday.

She is currently being treated at the Nawaloka Hospital on Sri Lanka.

Qiyas reports Zuleykha underwent surgery at the ADK Hospital in Male’ City but never regained consciousness following the accident.

“She was walking to the Thimarafushi Airport to receive someone. She was hit from the back by a van at the reclaimed area called Hiriya Fushi. She got thrown a good 20 feet away,” said Qiyas.

“She is still hooked to the ventilator. She showed some signs of improvement following the surgery,” he added.

Zuleykha sustained a brain hemorrhage, three head fractures and three broken teeth in the accident.
