EC: MDP submits audit; budget request will be sent this week

The Elections Commission says main opposition party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has submitted its audit report to the commission.

EC member and spokesperson, Ahmed Akram said the party submitted its audit report this Sunday. He said the request for the budget MDP has been allocated will be sent to Ministry of Finance this week.

EC requested Ministry of Finance for payment to political parties which had submitted its audit report and annual report; Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Jumhoory Party (JP) and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA); on April 23.

The biggest budget allocation – based on number of party members – will go to ruling PPM. PPM is due to receive MVR 11,538,660.13. The second biggest budget allocation will go to MDP. MDP is due to receive MVR 7,486,732.56.

JP is due to receive MVR 2,572,392.58 and MDA is due to receive MVR 2,650,885.58.

Political parties are allocated budget based on party membership; at the rate of MVR 251.58 per member.
