The redeveloped stretch of Ameenee Magu from the Radio Building to Dharumavantha Hospital was opened to the public on Saturday.

MTCC, which is undertaking the redevelopment of Ameenee Magu, has completed Segments One and Two and officially opened both sections for public use.

Works under Segment One included removing the previously laid ABC layer and asphalt, followed by laying new subgrade, subbase, ABC and asphalt over 2,794 sqm. In addition, 133 sqm of paved area was removed and rebuilt with new ABC and paving.

MTCC said that with Segments One and Two now completed, work on the remaining sections will continue as scheduled. The company said reopening the road will resolve previous difficulties faced by commuters and provide significant convenience to all road users.

Segment Three, from Izzuddin Magu to Koarukendi Hingun, will be developed over 1,924 sqm, while Segment Four, from Koarukendi Hingun to Giyasuddin International School, involves removing 1,148 sqm of old asphalt, re-paving the area and drawing new road markings.

Police on Saturday closed the area from Maafannu Stadium to the former Housing Ministry office for the Ameenee Magu development project and instructed vehicle owners to clear the area. Under former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, the Planning Ministry awarded the redevelopment contract to RDC for MVR 84.4 million. The last segment was completed two years ago after the government took office. However, the asphalt in the Harbor Food Court area later began to bulge and rise, causing serious inconvenience to commuters and prompting public criticism.
