Pre-construction survey underway to address worsening damage on Ameenee Magu

Core-cutting works were carried out on Monday as part of the pre‑construction survey for the redevelopment of Ameenee Magu under the Male’ Magu Project. The survey team of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) conducted the assessment to determine the quality of the soil and tar ahead of the road construction works.

The project aims to repair and improve the condition of Ameenee Magu, Izzudheen Magu and Boduthakurufaanu Magu. According to MTCC, completing these works will make the city’s roads safer and easier for both motorists and pedestrians.

MTCC recently stated that the tarring on the western section of Ameenee Magu will be removed, with re‑tarring scheduled to begin next week. The last tarred stretch of the road, near the Harbor Food Court area, has deteriorated to the point where driving has become dangerous. The surface has developed bumps and potholes due to uneven lifting of the tarmac.

The last segment of Ameenee Magu was paved two years ago after the government took office. The Planning Ministry of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration awarded the contract to RDC for MVR 84.4 million. However, the tarmac on both sides of Ameenee Magu has since shifted unevenly.

Ameenee Magu has been hazardous to drive on for a long time, and the public continues to express concern over its condition.
