Police arrest alleged leaders of Thinadhoo drug trafficking ring

The police have arrested two men who they believe to be leading figures within a drug trafficking network based in Thinadhoo City.

According to the police, the arrests were made on Monday in a joint operation by the Upper South Police’s Counter-Narcotics Operations team, Thinadhoo Police and Counter-Narcotics Intelligence.

The police on Wednesday identified the suspects as:

• Azlif Mohamed, 30, Hudhuruvaage, GDh. Thinadhoo
• Fazleen Mohamed, 38, Hudhuruvaage, GDh. Thinadhoo

The arrests followed a raid on a house in Thinadhoo, from where the police seized 16.25 grams of suspected narcotics.

The police said they suspect both men arrested in the case of being leading figures within the drug network.

Both suspects share the same address and last name. However, their exact relationship is unclear at this point.

Both Azlif and Fazleen were presented at court for their remand hearing on Tuesday. Fazleen was remanded in custody of police for 70 days, while Azlif was remanded for 30 days.

The case is under joint investigation by the Thinadhoo Police and Serious Crime Investigations.
