Thinadhoo Council announces action against misuse of land leased plots

GDh. Thinadhoo City Council, on Tuesday, warned that legal action will be taken against individuals found to be misusing land leased for various purposes within the city.

In an official announcement, the Council stated that it had identified several instances in which plots of land leased for specific purposes were being used for unauthorized activities in violation of the applicable regulations.

The Council therefore urged lessees to ensure that leased land is used strictly for the purposes specified in their agreements, warning that legal action would be initiated against individuals found to be violating the terms of their lease contracts.

The warning comes amid a separate case involving the Mayor of the fourth session of the Thinadhoo City Council Saud Ali and three other council members, who have been referred to the Prosecutor General's Office for prosecution. They are accused of unlawfully leasing land to a private company for a cooking gas business and providing undue advantages.

Addressing the allegations, the Mayor maintained that all actions taken by the council were carried out within the legal framework and said he had no concerns regarding the potential charges.

Earlier this month, on September 1, the Prosecutor General's Office announced that two charges had been filed against Saud in a separate case concerning allegations that Thinadhoo had been designated as a city in violation of the law.
