The Maldives Police Service has arrested three Bangladeshi nationals suspected of engaging in the unauthorized or black market foreign currency trade.

The arrests were prompted by a tip-off to a dedicated hotline established to report illegal foreign exchange activities.

The Police identified the detained individuals as Amir Hussain, MD Mizan ul-Rahman, and Siraj Khan, noting they were taken into custody on Monday. Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing and subsequent actions will be determined based on further findings.

The Police have urged the public to report any information regarding individuals or businesses engaging in unauthorized foreign exchange trading without a valid license from the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA). Tip-offs can be shared with the specialized task force via its operations number, 9388733, through SMS, Viber, or WhatsApp. The Police expressed gratitude for the public's cooperation in these efforts.

The Maldives Police Service and Maldives Immigration continue to collaborate on various operations to address the issue of expatriates living and working illegally in the country.
