The Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare has extended the deadline for submitting applications for the Riveli Award.
According to the ministry, submissions will now be accepted until 17th of next month at 13:00.
The Riveli Award is an important initiative established under the Law on the Protection of the Rights and Financial Assistance of Persons with Disabilities (Law No. 8/2010), and forms part of the government’s “Compassionate Society” policy to expand economic and social opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The main objective of the award is to recognise the services, empowerment and welfare of persons with disabilities.
A total of six categories will be awarded. They are:
1. Individuals with disabilities
2. Persons with disabilities who have brought honour and achievements to the Maldives
3. Education services for persons with disabilities and children (government and private sector)
4. Private organisations providing services to persons with disabilities
5. Technical and personal assistance
6. Support provided for the economic empowerment of persons with disabilities (private companies / government holding companies)
Application forms, documents and award guidelines are available at the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare counters at Umar Zahir Office Building, on the ministry’s website, and at Family and Children Service Centres in the atolls.
Completed forms and supporting documents may be submitted at the ministry counter or via [email protected] before 13:00 on 17th of next month.
The government hopes the award will help recognise the abilities and achievements of persons with disabilities and support efforts to reduce social discrimination.
First introduced in 2012, the Riveli Award is presented in collaboration with the President’s Office and the relevant ministry to encourage and recognise persons with disabilities. The award was previously presented in 2019 and 2021.
