The deadline for nominations for the Engineers Award has been extended, according to the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure.
The “Engineers Award 2026” aims to recognise the hard work of Maldivian engineers and professionals contributing to national development and the growth of the engineering sector.
The Housing Ministry said on Wednesday that the application window has now been extended until 14:00 on August 27.
The Engineers Award will be presented across 10 categories, including:
Engineer of the Year
Lifetime Achievement Award
Young Engineer Award
Women in Engineering Award
Engineering Innovation, Technology, Education and Research Award
Sustainability Champion Award
Engineering Consultant / Consultancy Firm of the Year Award
Student Innovator Award
Community Impact Award
Contractor of the Year Award
According to the regulations governing the award, applicants must be Maldivian and must have made notable contributions to the field of engineering. The Young Engineer Award is reserved for professionals under the age of 30.
The ministry noted that the award is open to individual engineers, teams, organisations, contractors, consultants, state-owned enterprises, government institutions and academic or research groups providing engineering services in the Maldives.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu declared August 30 as National Engineers’ Day last year, marking the anniversary of the Sinamale' Bridge inauguration.
