Male’ ring road reopens after major redevelopment

The northern section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, the ring road that wraps around the Male’ City, reopened on Friday after major redevelopment works.

The MVR 144.5 million Boduthakurufaanu Magu project, which saw the redevelopment of 830 meters of road with an asphalt base and 737 meters of sheet piling and a storm water drain system, was awarded to Maldive Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) in April 2025.

The section from Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) headquarters reopened for public use in late afternoon – marking the completion the project to redevelop Boduthakurufaanu Magu.

The road has been widened to four lanes and redeveloped with asphalt.

More than 3,000 coconut palms and other shade trees line up the side of the road along the coastline.

The project to redevelop Boduthakurufaanu Magu was launched to ease traffic congestion in the populous Male’ City.
