MCGH CEO hails Dr. Fazna’s legacy as an inspiration for future generations

Male’ City Group of Hospitals (MCGH) CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem on Thursday said that Dr. Aminath Fazna, the first Maldivian doctor to specialize in developmental paediatrics, will remain an encouragement to the health sector for generations to come.

Sun learned that Dr. Fazna, 47, passed away on Thursday while receiving treatment for cancer in Male’. After completing her studies abroad, she returned to the Maldives as a developmental paediatrician and began consulting patients at IGMH in October 2024.

In a post on X, Haleem extended condolences to her family and described Dr. Fazna as an exemplary clinician who pioneered the treatment of childhood developmental disorders and worked to elevate the field in the Maldives. As the nation’s first Developmental Pediatrics Sub‑Specialist, he said, she played a crucial role in advancing the discipline.

Haleem said Dr. Fazna’s courage, compassion and dedication gave hope and reassurance to many children and their families. He added that her unmatched example of service will be a powerful source of encouragement for future generations in the health sector.

He also prayed for her soul, asking Allah to grant her eternal blessings.

Her funeral will be held at Aasahara Miskiy after Isha prayers on Thursday evening.
