The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has warned that strict action will be taken against employees who misuse airport security passes issued for work at Velana International Airport (VIA), in violation of established regulations.

The warning was issued in a circular sent to all MACL staff and relevant authorities. According to the circular, airport security passes are issued solely for official duty purposes and for accessing designated restricted or controlled areas. However, MACL stated that some employees have been observed entering the Arrival Baggage Belt area, a Customs‑controlled zone, without any operational requirement and engaging with passengers.

MACL noted that such actions could compromise aviation security and disrupt both airport and Customs operations. The circular states that “unauthorized use of the airport security pass will endanger aviation security and hamper airport and Customs operations.”

Under the regulations reiterated in the circular, security passes must be used strictly for official duties, and personal or non‑operational use is prohibited. Employees are not permitted to enter the Customs area without specific authorization, nor to interact with passengers unless required for official work.

MACL warned that violations will result in administrative action, including the possibility of confiscation, suspension, or cancellation of the security pass. The company urged all employees to fully comply with airport security rules, procedures, and instructions.
