A “Calm Room” has been opened at Velana International Airport (VIA) to support passengers with non‑visible disabilities, physical conditions, and others who require special assistance.

The facility was inaugurated at VIA’s first terminal by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef.

MACL said the Calm Room is designed to provide a sensory‑friendly environment for passengers with special needs and those who require additional support. The company described the initiative as a key milestone in its efforts to make the airport more inclusive and service‑oriented.

According to MACL, the Calm Room is equipped with sensory tools and activities tailored for passengers who may experience stress, anxiety, or sensory overload. Dedicated waiting areas are also available for attendants accompanying such passengers.

Passengers who wish to use the Calm Room will be issued a special lanyard and card upon request. MACL said the lanyard will help staff easily identify passengers who require additional assistance and ensure they receive timely support.
