Mohamed Lamaan resigned as Deputy Managing Director at the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), April 30, 2026.
The Deputy Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has resigned.
Sun has confirmed his resignation. It is understood that Lamaan stepped down to take up a position at another company.
No further details have been disclosed as there has been no official announcement regarding the change, and it remains unclear which company he is joining.
With this change, Mujthaba Latheef will be the only Deputy Managing Director of MACL.
MACL is one of the most profitable state‑owned enterprises. Although the company was managing Velana International Airport at the time, the Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL) was dissolved last year, and all airports previously operated by RACL were transferred to MACL in early September.
However, the government has faced allegations of political influence over the company, including the appointment of hundreds of political figures to MACL.
The company is also carrying out several activities outside its core mandate, including projects linked to President Dr. Muizzu’s pledges such as land reclamation and the construction of outdoor gyms on islands.
